View Full Version : Getting tension on equalizer bars

I came to an interesting observation last weekend that might make it easier to get the proper "chain link" setting on your equalizer bars.   I can't confirm this cause I'm not using that type of hitch any longer.

My Reese equalizing hitch was much easier to set than the EAZ-lift (is the brand name close?) cause the hook used to catch the chain link was longer and had a larger "hook."   I always cursed at the EAZ-lift when the chain would come flying off half way to raising the bars.   So I never got the pre-load I wanted on the leveling bars.

Now the hint:  If you hitch your vehicle to your trailer, then use the tongue jack to apply some lift to the tongue, you should be able to easily get that extra chain link you want to grab for the load leveling bars.   Raise the tongue jack and the tongue of the trailer will drop so the leveling bars will be "pre-loaded."
