Camped Jul. 23 - 28 2017, upper camping area site #15.
The park is every bit as beautiful as member Lesherp has photographed (see
Lesherp's album). Locals had mentioned that due to rain far north of the park weeks earlier, the water level of Temperance River was much higher than normal for this time of year.
Had absolutely gorgeous weather (65-75 during the days, 50's at night) with partly-sunny skies. We took a few short hikes to falls around the park and made day trips to Lutzen (a skiiing area with lift and gondola rides during summer), the Cross and Caribou Rivers, Tettagouche and Cascade SPs, Silver Bay and Grand Marais.
Grand Marais has a nifty "folk school" where they were teaching the smelting of cast iron using old Viking techniques, breadmaking and timber framing. My wife fell in love with the quaint little town as it reminded her of an small east-coast community. I'm really hoping she'll agree to a trip there instead of Nantucket only because it'll save me a ton of money!
We also ventured out into Superior National Forest for a less developed campsite but we were not prepared for the mosquitos -- much worse than we experienced at our campsite 100 yards away from Lake Superior. Many beautiful lakes and camping sites. Dispersed camping is allowed anywhere in the NF.
