You are correct in assuming the "white dryer hose" is to pull the heat away from the refrigerator cooling fins. It is designed to work when the trailer is closed and the refrigerator is operating. I don't think an aluminum tub would work because there is not enough room between the back of the refrigerator and the box wall between the upper and lower vents. Since it is a standard dryer vent hose it is easily replaced. My vent hose also dried out and needed replacement. Carefully remove the damaged hose and use it as a template for the replacement which is available at any hardware store. Getting the new one in place is a bit of a challenge. It takes a fair amount of patience to get the vent hose by the back of the refrigerator and the box wall. I found that carefully twisting the hose wire past the tight area, one wire at a time worked best at positioning the replacement hose.
