Default Camping in MA

In a welcoming message Catawbalea asked where to camp in MA. We have stayed at several CGs in the area, including one near Old Sturbridge and the Brimfield Flea Market. Another nice location is Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Canal. We highly recommend the state forest CGs as they tend to be sited with plenty of trees and spread apart to allow for more privacy. However, most all of the state forest CGs have no hookups. Some sites can be reserved while others are left open for "drop ins" -you take your chance that a site is available.

Some of the private CGs we've stayed at:

Camp Overflow (near Tolland State Forest)
Nice CG with wooded sites fairly close together; electric & water, no sewer at our site; rustic but clean restrooms and showers ($).

Oak Haven (near Old Sturbridge and the Brimfield Flea Market)
Mostly wooded sites; clean facilities; dirt roads with some slopes

Maurice's Campground (Cape Cod)
Narrow roads; closely packed (treed) sites; abuts the mid cape bike trail; some open field sites

Scusset Beach State Reservation (along the Cape Cod Canal, mainland side)
Mostly open sites; abuts the Cape Cod Canal bike path; clean facilities; electric & shared water, no sewer

There are several CGs we've visited and put them on our short list for future outings:

Southwick Acres, Southwick, MA
Mostly wooded sites; mostly seasonal campers; rustic facilities

Windy Acres, Westhampton, MA
Wooded sites; rustic facilities

Bonny Rigg Camping Club
Until a few years ago a membership CG, now open to the public; nicely wooded sites; open year round

We are heading to the Bourne Scenic Park CG to attend the fall rally of the New England Pilgrim TrailBlazers Chapter. The rally is being held September 8th through the 10th and will post a review of the CG shortly after our return home.
