To set the sofa up as a small bed, lift the front edge of the seat up a few inches then pull forward until the side rails lock into the armrest rails. Next lift up the bottom of the seat back and pull it forward then lay it down into the empty space. The back of the seat back has an angled piece that fits on top of the armrest rails while the top, back part rests on two (or 3) vertical pieces of wood.
