Default an encouraging word...

Sorry to hear it went badly for your first trip -- take heart in that we all (I think) had some bad experiences getting started with a TM.

In our 2720SL we sleep with our heads at the back window and feet toward the hallway. I tend to get to bed sooner than the wife and -- even at 6'2" with my body angled from back corner to wardrobe, my wife only has to nudge my feet out of the way rather than climb over me when she wants in or out.

We also went with a memory foam topper under a couple 2" thermarest air mattresses to provide more back support than the stock foam mattress. Still not the ideal solution but a lot better than it was.

I keep thinking about swim noodles every time I set the bed up - but not until then; someday I'll remember to buy them before I get into camp.

And what are the odds of the popcorn and bacon problems happening again??

Hoping you are happy in whatever you decide,
CAMark
