We also have this problem. To remove the grate, the stovetop cover (the one under the burners) must be pulled up, which isn't real easy, and the clips removed. A pain to do every single time we're out camping, which is about how often the stove gets filthy. It's a dirt magnet for some reason, even if we don't cook on it.

We don't currently have the stove cover that goes over the burner. But from reading everyone's posts, sounds like we could remove the grill retaining clips (so that the grill can just be lifted out) and buy a cover to keep the grill in place while traveling. Would this work? How does the cover attach to the stove? To those same 2 screws that the stovetop cover (under the burners) attaches to?
