I took the old anode out of our 2004 and got a replacement at Camping World for my Suburban heater. I put teflon tape on the threads but having a problem getting it screwed back in because of the location there is not alot of room for my fat fingers to hand start it. Im thinking that I need to get a socket that size might help. BTW I also took a wire brush to the female threads to clean them up.

Starting it isn't always easy, trying a socket may help

If you use a socket to get it started, only turn the socket with your fingers. If you use a wrench, it's much easier to strip the threads, and that would make you very sad.

I went through the same drill. Couldn't get the threads to catch for quite a bit, like to the point. Eventually, I got it by hand. Just gotta have patience (and keep Teflon tape off that first thread or two)...

Try turning it the opposite way, when the threads seat you should feel it and then can gently turn it the correct way. If not, rinse and repeat. The thread flights are probably a bit worn.
