Default Open length

I’m sure this has been asked before, but my search terms didn’t come up with the answer I need. I apologize if this has been asked a thousand times.

What is the length of a 2720 opened—but not including hitch. The 27 includes the hitch—correct? I’m guessing it’s around 24 feet? Mine is parked in storage, and it’s a 20 minute drive. Just thought I’d check here and see if I can avoid going over there to measure.

Thanks.

I will check later, but I recall the 27' in the "equivalent" size of a standard 27' trailer which is often defined as hitch to bumper. I believe the actual living space is about 24'.

Just got back. It's pretty close to 24' from hitch to back opened up. I always thought this was misleading, calling it a 2720 when it only opened to 24'. But then I learned that a 27' trailer isn't actually 27' of living space. It's 27' from hitch to bumper.

Thank you so much! I’m looking at tyvek roof covers that would allow me to cover it while opened.

Yup, but also keep in mind that open, there is a significant amount of space over the tongue of the trailer that is usually unoccupied on most trailers. So we do gain more space than just the "hitch to bumper" measurement would imply. I've been in true 27' campers and they really didn't feel to me like they had additional length space over my 2720.

I always chuckle at all the for sale ads listing the open length as the second part of the model (for example, 3326 opening up to 33’). It just doesn’t work that way. Yeah it is kinda advertising slight of hand.

When I first looked at TMs, at a dealer, back in 2004, where I ended up buying my 2005 (yup, back then, just like other manufacturers, they had new units on the lot the summer prior...), it was 'explained' to me by the dealer that the first two numbers represented the 'equivalent' trailer size if you were to buy a conventional travel trailer. So a 3023 was equivalent living space, when opened, as a 30' travel trailer. I think that's a pretty close comparison.

Yep, it is equivalent to how most TT list the trail size. I have had several TT. My 31' airstream had a box size 27.5, but it was call a 31' Most others are the same. I think Jaco give both numbers.

AFAIR, each module opens 48" on each end. However the front is over the tongue so does not add any length. Closed my 2720SL is 19'4".

OK, so since beds don't occupy floor space, we can achieve the same space with less length. Still sounds shifty, but I think I get it.

Wow, a 2006, 20' open, 6' closed. I didn't know they made that one.

yeah, the 27 of the 2720 provides a comparison to other trailers, which all quote living space. The 20 tells you the real length closed.
