adding additional speakers
Has anyone added additional speakers to their TM? I tried to add speakers to be used outside, but there is very little output and a lot of static when the volume is turned up about halfway. The stereo that is installed is a Pioneer car stereo.

Could you give a little more detail about your attempted installation? What type speakers, what type wire, wire routing and connection points.
If I was adding a pair of external speakers, I would use the "rear" speaker outputs from the stereo. Then the "front/rear fader" control would turn them on or off.

I wired the TM speakers as the front speakers and wired my outdoor speakers as the rear speakers. This allows me to use the fade control to keep the indoor volume a little lower than the outdoor volume.

On the two leads/wires to a speaker, one is negative and one is positive. Check to make sure you have them right.

To the best of my knowledge:
1. the analog signal is a/c, therefore polarity really does not matter.
2. if two speakers are wired the opposite of each other (red/black versus black/red) then there will be a phase shift issue, but most people would never notice the difference. Especially in a campground.

Wire them out of phase and there will be NO bass, plus the voices will sound like 2 distinct voices, one from each speaker, instead of a nice central image.
I had Car Toys install better speakers in my wifes CRV and noticed it right away, they STILL wanted to argue about it so I brought in a test CD that clearly showed the issue, they were shocked anyone would notice. LOL
There's NO BASS ! How could you not notice. Even the DW noticed. She just wouldn't know what the problem was.
Not something I'm proud of, but I'm one of those high end 2 channel audio nuts.

Dave99gst: nice job!
Now I'm annoyed. I *need* to do this, now that I've seen it. And to think, I was satisfied with opening the windows and cranking the stereo inside...
What are the dimensions/brand/model of those speakers, if you know?

Dave -
Looks nice! I would never have had the courage to do this, and I hope you'll get back to us in about a year. Can you give us the make/model of the speaker you used? I see a speaker exposed to the water / sand / grit / oil / tar / stones kicked up from the road, hard-bolted to the TM frame (the vibration will be fierce), and held against the levelling jack, which can move a bit, causing repeated impacts on the case as you drive (at least on rough roads). If this lasts, I may want to do the same thing.
