Default Cranking up the awning at night

I was curious is anyone had experience with cranking their awning up at night while keeping the support arms attached to the camper. Can this be done well by simply loosening the nuts on the support arms and cranking it in? Is this a feasible way of protecting your awning against night rain and wind or do the arms not flex in the right directions to make this an option?

IMO, cranking up the awning part way without having the weight supported by the arms would place a lot of stress on the awning assembly and the attachment points on the trailer.

It seems the amount of time to put it away completely would not be that different.

Another thought, an awning open part way can be a rain collector, which can damage the awning very quickly.

I don't think you'll be able to open the door if the awing is not completely in or out. I tried that very thing last weekend.

I take my support arms out of the brackets on the side of the camper and place them on the ground, then crank in, almost all the way. This allows the door clearance, and the bit of awning that sticks out is supported by the support arm feet resting on the ground. Plus, its just the right height that I don't have to readjust the arm length. Easy set up and down as needed this way.

Default Yes, you can...

Hey Sopper.

I do exactly what you are thinking about. Just be sure the weight is still supported by the much shortened arms. I usually have my awning out only enough to use the "bottom half" of the support arms if you know what I mean. You kind of have to do it to know what I am saying. I keep the awning high enough where I can open the door. No problem. Seems to help with the wind and rain but I never leave it out if I know a wind / storm is coming.
