Water heater does not work on AC
I can not figure out why water does not work on a.c. Power. I checked the element with wires disconected & showed 10 ohms on my dvm, but when i have it switched AC it does not heat up. How do i check to se if it is getting power?

Dave,
Have you turned on the electric switch? It is located on the water heater, behind the outside grill.
See Bill's Instruction for a picture showing the water heater electric switch location. Make sure the water heater is filled before turning the switch on.

Dave,
You will need to access the electric element in order to test it for power. See Bill's instruction on how to replace the electric element - he shows and describes how to access the electric element - at which point you could test the wires for power. Just a thought - have you checked the two reset buttons? Last year I had to replace my electric element - forgot to turn the electric switch off before draining the water heater.

I used Bill's excellent instructions to check the heatinting elelment. I also checked the resset buttons. No voltage goiing to the element as far as I can tell.

Check the 20 amp circuit breaker located at the converter. Has it tripped? Check for current leaving the breaker. I had to replace my 30 amp main breaker two years ago.
To check for current at the electrode you need to remove the black cover, remove the two wires from the electrode then check them for current.

I am sure you are aware, but during this debugging process if you turn on the outside WH switch even even momentarily you will destroy the element. To be safe fill the WH at least half full.

Today we took our Trailer to our local Trailmanor Dealer (MCD in West Yarmouth, Mass). Derek adjusted the shells and I had him look at the hot water heater while it was there. He found the problem. One of the wires that provides power to the heating element was disconnected underneath the heater. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for a TM or needing service. They are really nice people and their service is excellent.

Check the two snap switches ( overheat protection). They are small round black discs just above the electric switch. Push in on each. If either of them snap (you can feel it). It was tripped.
