A few more suggestions:

1. Gamble house in Pasadena. Used in "Back to the Future". A Greene and Greene design, and open for tours.

2. In Pacific Palisades you can visit the Will Rogers estate. It is now a state park.

3. Museum of Natural History in Exposition Park.

4. Travel Town rail museum in Griffith Park.

5. Coast Artillery emplacements in San Pedro. Sea mammal rescue facility is nearby. Not far from some tidepools.

6. Bradbury building in downtown LA. Grand Central Market too.

7. Barnsdall house, a Frank Lloyd Wright design. A city park now I think.

8. Griffith Park observatory.

9. Day trip to Catalina Island. They have one of those places where you put on a diving helmet and walk on the sea floor. Plus its a beautiful place.

10. Santa Monica pier.

11. Bungalow district in Pasadena.

13. Watts Towers.

14. Gene Autry Museum of the American West in Griffith park. First class.

15. Union Station near Olvera Street. Art Deco architecture in the last of the great train stations built. A famous and funky restaurant called Philippe's is one block up the street. Great french dip sandwiches.

Better keep your fingers crossed.....the weatherman is calling for a chance of showers tonight through Tuesday. It's that time of the year .

Even if it does rain, there's a lot to do and see. I took the kids to the La Brea tar pits when we went to the King Tut exhibit a few years back, we all liked it. We also went to Chinatown and had some awesome BBQ pork. DH's cousin voluneters at the Getty, we've never been there but she raves about it.

No matter what will beat central PA in mid January, well unless mother nature throws in a big earthquake...
