my "filter upgrade" was just tighter foam, with gaps about half the size, surrounded by two so-called electrostatic "holder" layers. Not the stuff you warned about. But I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your picture as I assemble mine, and it's great to hear (ahem, to NOT hear ) that you got 4 db by doing this.

That's huge. My high-tech composite might do better per unit thickness, but it's gonna be way to expensive to use as thick as you did. I bought only one "mini-pack" sheet.
