Default Wedgewood 3 Burner Range With Oven

Hello To All, I was just wondering if anyone has modified the grate on these ranges so you can easily remove it to clean the range top and the grate itself. It is rather difficult to remove the fixed clips on the backside of the range. My old Trailmanor had a different range which utilized some quick release type clips which enabled me to easily remove/install the grate for easy cleaning.

Ours had some little clips but my wife wanted them removed first thing since she is a clean freak. She even cleans the whole TM when it has just been sitting & not used. as for the clips on the grate ours has rubber grommets that the grate sits in. They seem to hold it in place well with the stove cover down. Not sure what would happen if we didn't have the stainless cover though.

I went through the same question you asked, and I modified the grate as follows.

1. Remove the grate from the stove.
2. In the four holes in the stovetop, install rubber grommets, available from any hardware store
3. On two legs of the grate, diagonally opposite each other, file a small flat area on the side of the legs near the end.
4. Centered in each flat area, drill a small hole through the leg. The fact that the area is flat keeps the drill from wandering.
5. Drop the four legs of the grate through the four holes. On the underside of the two drilled legs, put a flat washer on the leg and then push a small wire clip, like the one in the water heater switch, through the hole.

Works like a champ.

My wife likes to wipe the stove top a couple times a day. I got tired of clipping and un-clipping that stupid grate. I just removed the clips all together.

We just put a piece if 2" foam rubber on top of the grate, when we fold down. It holds it in place nicely. Gravity works pretty well while we are set-up.

The dealer directed us to use one of the throw pillows over it when we fold down, but I am slightly concerned that I will eventually end up with a greasy pillow. I like Wayne's suggestion of using the foam rubber.
