Default remove carpet and or vinyl?

Hi

We are new owners of a beautiful 2005 3023 Trailmanor and love it. We would like some advice on how to replace the carpet as we had a leak in the roof and would like to replace it. Should we do it all at once the whole trailer or just the section that was damaged? We did have a small leak on the vinyl floor also it feels a little differen't when stepping on it in one spot only. Good news the leaks are repaired and no more at this point in time. Is it a big job to replace the carpet and vinyl?

Thanks for help and information on this subject!

Replaced our carpet and vinyl in 2001 2619 with click and go laminate wood flooring...left the vinyl in the bathroom area. It is a little bit of work in such a tight space but well worth it!

Most people that do any flooring work in the TM prefer to eliminate the carpet all together and go with some sort of solid flooring like laminate, vinyl tiles or linoleum.

The old linoleum pulls up pretty easily (at least ours did). The carpet is stapled down with like a bazzilion little staples. When you pull the carpet up a lot of staples will stay in the floor. If the staples have carpet fibers stuck in them (most will) they will have to be pulled out with a pair of vise grips.

Once everything is out, it's very important to have a clean surface if you are going to use any adhesive material. We cleaned ours good with acetone (careful of the fumes) and put down a coat or two of "1-2-3 Primer". This made an excellent surface for the self adhesive vinyl planks that we put down. It also seals up those bazillion holes in the floor from the staples.

We considered "floating" laminate floors but decided against it. The grandkids are forever spilling things or coming in the trailer wet. Laminate flooring may not be the best option when moisture may be present. Although.......if it did get wet and had to be replaced, it wouldn't be a big deal.....

BTW.......If you use a solvent like acetone (or anything else that might go through the staple holes and eat up the Styrofoam in the floors), be sure to just use a rag soaked in the chemical and don't allow it to puddle.

Which is arguably the case in most any trailer.

We ripped out our carpet and put in wood tone vinyl flooring squares. I'm so glad that nasty old carpet is gone! It's so much easier to clean, and if someone spills something, a breeze to clean up. http://www.trailmanorowners.com/foru...0&postcount=16

Thanks! I haven't logged on in a few days. We'll probably go with vinyl. Still working on solving the leak--just over the carpet! It's coming from either of the two vents and I plan on testing my latest attempt today. Any ideas on funding the source of the leak? Thanks again!

You didn't mention what year/model TrailManor that you have. Also, do you have A/C?

Roof leaks can be pretty frustrating to locate because the water can travel across the inside of the ceiling and come out quite a way away from the exterior leak, especially if the trailer is not perfectly level.

Default leaks

We have a 2005 TM 3123. I think the leak is coming from the rivets along the seam. I resealed a few of them and crossing my fingers!

Replace all of the caulking. It is the best way to be sure you get all of the leaks and possible future leaks. I have used the self leveling caulk on flat areas with good results. I am sure others have had good results with other types.
We replaced the carpet in the area beside the bath and in the kitchen area with vinyl squares. It was easy. I checked with the factory about removal of adhesive that remained and they said use mineral spirits.
One thing we discovered after removing the carpet was the top of the wardrobe that was on the floor when traveling now is messed up from not having carpet under it. So if you remove the carpet place something under the wardrobe.
