Congrats!

We looked at Good Sams but were unsure weather it was a "good idea" or not.

Default AAA auto service

Just another data point. AAA has an RV option/coverage (for additional money of course) called RV Plus. We had that before we joined Good Sam's or Camping World. The RV Plus DOES provide a seperate Tow for the RV in addition to the autos. The Good Sam's coverage wants to cover all of your autos and RV as well. Getting a quote from Good Sam's and comparing it with the AAA coverage and evaluating cost/value is on my list of things to do but I have not gotten to it yet. When I can make a statement on how they compare head to head I will share that info with all on this site.

We got the 2619. There is just the three of us, including the dog.
The dealer offered a RV insurance plan for stove, etc. that seemed expensive. We need to check our insurance company for what we will have covered. Is Good Sam insurance any good if in addition to our current coverage? Thanks for the welcome. The first trip won't be for a while. The trailer came much sooner than we expected.

You did understand correctly. We also agree. It seemed to us all appliances would have to have big problems to be worth the cost.

Default AAA does not provide a separate tow under RV Plus in some states

AAA is nothing more than an Association of Automobile Clubs and not a nationwide corporation; most of the clubs are per-state. Each state club sets its own rules/policies about what is covered by plans such as RV Plus. Many state clubs do indeed send out two tow trucks to provide a separate tow for the trailer as well as the tow vehicle; however some state clubs send only one truck to bring in the tow vehicle. On a multi-state trip, you would have to check the rules/policies of the club in each state you will be traveling through to determine what RV Plus will provide...and the check should be done before every multi-state trip since the individual state clubs can and do change their policies at will.

As a AAA member since 1987, I upgraded my basic membership to RV Plus when I first bought my trailer. After discovering (by reading the forums at RV.NET) that RV Plus coverage might not provide a tow for trailer and tow vehicle in some states, I reverted back to regular AAA membership and bought the Good Sam ERS as well. Although the two plans are semi-redundant, I''ve found the AAA membership pays for itself in other ways...major discounts at many retailers as well as free maps and tour books.
A nice side benefit of Good Sam ERS is it also covers me if I'm traveling on one of motorcycles and need roadside assistance or even transport of a disabled machine (you can't "tow" a disabled motorcycle).

I'm happy Good Sam works for you Ray, but those of us who travel with our pets may find it doesn't work for us. I am on a discussion list for folks who travel to/from dog competitions with RVs. Several times we have discussed roadside assistance plans and there have been repeated reports of Good Sam refusing service because of the "show dogs" on board, even when the writer was taking a vacation trip! I have not looked into Good Sam personally but those weighing their options may want to ask several different GS agents about travelling with pets before signing on the dotted line.

You may also want to check with your regular insurance carrier for your autos, homes, etc. Mine is through Farmers Insurance and they cover my TM based on the value of the TM. I also have the towing and road service added to both the Jeep and the TM. It is very inexpensive this way and having worked for Farmers for many years, I know they are very reliable and provide coverage in all states that you may be driving through.
