When I installed my Curve, I put a three inch pipe plug in the old drain. I chose to put in a one inch high platform to mount the Curves mounting plate on, but it wasn't necessary. Here is the link that will show some photos. If you look thru the entire thread, there are many examples.

ShrimpBurrito, do you have any pics of inside the trailer flange where the toilet sits on? If so could you post those, I am repairing mine, and the inside flange after I removed a homemade piece of wood with a flap valve there seems to be a bunch of silicone or caulking etc...something that is all around the flange, then under that is a black seal that is falling apart. So if you can post a few pics of what the inside should look like before mounting the toilet would be great.
