Living in a beach area ourselves, I've always wondered about Myrtle Beach. So many people comment on it and seem to enjoy going there. It looks like the campground is right on the beach. We only have one campground here in Santa Cruz that is right on the beach, and that would be Seacliff. It has a very high cliff (80' - 100' or so) right next to the campground and road that runs along the seashore. We have a reservation to spend one night there in about 2 weeks...we've never camped there before. $40 a night, and a $7.50 reservation fee. It's basically cliff, road, and then parking area right on the ocean. They have installed a retaining wall between the campground and the beach to keep the erosion down.

Someday we must go to the Other Coast and check out the beaches there. They seem very different from our Pacific Coast beaches. Does it get as crowded there as it does here during the summer? Seacliff gets booked 7 months ahead of time, and you can't even find a weeknight available during the summer, or most of the winter months.

Yes it gets booked fast,we booked last July for this March . There are 2000 camp sites in Ocean Lake and yes it is right on the beach 30.00 dollars a nite full hook-up cable tv and phone ,50 feet to walk to the beach! And yes it gets crowded in the spring and summer ! The Rip

For an good alternative campground in Myrtle Beach, try either Huntington Beach State Park or Myrtle Beach State Park. Both are a little less expensive than Ocean Lakes, have a beautiful, uncluttered beach, and are quite pleasant modern campgrounds. Myrtle Beach has a little something for everyone. Many people call it the "red neck riviera," but it's not too difficult to avoid the honky tonk aspects. Learning the lay of the land takes a little while, but you can pretty much craft the kind of experience you wish to have there. - Ted

Default Myrtle Beach State Park

I like the Myrtle Beach State Park. Much cheaper. Only 200 yards to the water. It does get crowded in the summer. Also gets really hot. Was there in August for a few days.
