Default Towing Hi-Lo Open

I saw a Hi-Lo today being pulled by a pick-up. It was fully raised and had some bungee cords keeping the top portion on. Any former Hi-Lo owners on the forum? Can someone pull a Hi-Lo fully open? It looked like a disaster waiting to happen.

The owner is going to be surprised when he discovers that Hi-Lo is out of business and he can't get service.

I'm glad we don't have the internal cables, pulleys, guide rod, and hydraulic pump to fix.

Some HiLo models apparently MUST have a good battery to operate (or borrow your truck battery)
dead battery = tow home raised.
From hilotrailerforum.com: "On my 97 towlite, I need battery power to raise the trailer.".

You could post the question at: http://www.hilotrailerforum.com

Answering the question, These folks say DON'T tow a HiLo raised.
Bad for cables etc.

A very long time ago, I think maybe 2003 or 2004, someone here saw an ad for a TM that was somehow secured into an open configuration, and was using it that way all the time, towing it open.

I don't remember how old it was, but perhaps the opening and closing issues were best solved by this person by leaving it in the open position all the time.

We've moved ours for a very short distance (one campsite to the next at Seacliff) and using our pickup, I don't know how that would work on a permanent basis. We had to partially close it down to make the tight reverse turn into the campsite.

My husband saw a HiLo being towed in the open position a few months ago. I do read sever other camper style boards and have read on the Yahoo HiLo board that it should not be done.

There is some interesting things that are posted on other sites. For instance for awhile it seemed a group on that hilo page were considering resurrecting the company and were even drawing and posting sketches of possible plans for models designed especially for the retiree age folks.
