Default Rubber strip on curb side

Hi all, I have a 2005 3023 and it has a rubber strip on the rear shell on the curb side, it kinda pushes the shell out when I am closing it, it looks like its been there for a while. I am new to the TrailManor so I am wondering what purpose this serves and if anyone else has this strip on there Trailmanor, I have a picture of it with an outline in red to show the actual strip. Can I remove this thing if its not stock??

Interesting! My first thought was that PO put the extra strips on there to keep dust out while towing. But, from your second picture, that doesn't seem to be the case, as it does push the outer wall out, leaving a gap near the top.

Without analyzing it in-person, it appears that it is not needed. BUT, if it is not needed, what prompted the PO to put it there? He felt a need, for some reason.

Before removing, I would check to see if it could actually be keeping dust out while towing - is there something else that is keeping the dust out from above the add-on strip when it is closed? Also, look to see how it is attached. If it has screws holding it to the wall, you will have to caulk each of those screw holes, very well, to make sure it doesn't leak.

Good luck! Let's see what others have to say.

I also thought it was put on after market to keep dust out when stored or traveling. The vertical strip and horizontal strip may not be pushing the shell out but actually filling the gap created when the TM is closed. If this is the case then the shells are not closing as tight as they should and may be an alignment issue.

Thanks for the quick responses, I was not sure if it was something that came with delivery of the Trailmanor when it was new and was never removed. If I can remove it without damaging anything I just might to see if it is pushing the rear shell out, other than that I see no leaks and when the rear shell is up and all appears normal.

It is certainly is not stock, but my guess is that it was intended to center the rear shell as it comes down. On some TMs (including mine), the shell does not quite center itself, which can make it hard to close.

I wonder if it was installed because there was an annoying rattling noise that was managed this way?

The issue I have is that when I close the front shell, I have to push in that part of shell as I am pushing down for the shell to get latched, maybe I just need some more practice..lol

So I did take it off, it was held on by a glue backing, very easy to take off, it did alleviate some of the angle issue, but not all, it is still pushed out a bit on that side, maybe it needs some adjustment and the PO did a temporary fix, if any body has any remedy on how to adjust the side I am all ears.
Thanks!!!

So now I am sure that the PO did have an issue with the rear shell being a bit off. He must have tried different fixes, here is one that seems to work, he attached two metal holders, one is on the front shell attached to the electric conduit and one is attached to the rear shell in the back close to the other holder, I found a metal rod that is bent and connects the two holders together and this brings the front shell closer to the rear shell and eliminates the gap.
