Default Camping 2014

We feel very fortunate that we have been able to camp early this year. This past weekend we returned to a local beach with perfect weather conditions and enjoyed camping in our TM for the second time this year. Here's a couple of photos of our rig when we first got set up and at sunset Saturday.

Hope all of you in the midwest and northeast will soon thaw out and be able to start your camping season.

That's fabulous! Just sit in San Diego weather and enjoy the ocean and the sunsets!
What's amazing is that you seem to have plenty of space without neighbors.

Redtail, you show off, Just kidding. We are at Menifee, Ca. I did not want to post any pictures like that. I was afraid I would get shot by the northerners. Pictures look great. We were in the mountains at Idllywild last week. Daytime highs were in mid 60's and lows in low 40's. We left Michigan in middle of December and got caught in Dallas with the ice storms. I love the weather in Southern Ca. and will be heading for home in Florida starting March 5. Don't think we will run into any snow one I10. Have fun. John.

We have noted that a lot of CG's your way don't open till the middle of May. Have to drag our feet a bit to arrive when they start opening.

My camping photos are a little misleading, in that it appears we are all by ourselves. That particular weekend we shared the beach with seven other campers; however all of them were either large class A's or fairly large 5th wheelers, so they couldn't back out onto the sand as far as we could. Another reason why the light weight TM has the advantage over the bigger RV's. It also helped to have 4wheel drive. It' always fun to see the reaction of the other campers when we back out 100 ft beyond them onto the soft sand

We like http://www.recreation.gov/ for improved federal CG's because it list all the agencies (national parks, forests, Corp or Engineers, etc. It does not list the free federal camping areas only improved areas..

Actually Rec.gov only lists CG's that have reservations through them. Clear Springs, USFS, is an example. Has elec and water at sites and showers but isn't in the reservation system as its first come first serve only.

The " nest " is set to launch on Wed Mar 5th with a 60% chance of rain...oh I so don't miss opening and closing the pup in the rain or blowin' snow.
