Default Yosemite anyone?

We have reservations for a very small parking area in Yosemite starting Friday for 7 days. I originally booked it because I asked for a 24' trailer spot, and I (amazingly) was able to book it. Upon further reading, it turns out that you can only have a 12' trailer in the site. We were able to book 5 nights in a trailer site in May after they opened the floodable sites, so we've already gone this year (in our tent, so glad we didn't try to get the trailer in there). Anyway, it's in Lower Pines, site 15, and I will be cancelling it tomorrow. I checked out the site when we went there earlier, I think that our TM would have fit in there, but we couldn't have the truck there too, but there is some extra parking not too far from the site. If you want to bring a tent, no problem.

If anyone is wanting to go to Yosemite, let me know, and I will try to arrange a time that I can cancel and you can book the reservations tomorrow. I have until 9 pm tomorrow night to cancel. I am not asking for any compensation for this, just giving everyone a heads up, it's really hard to get into Yosemite in the summer, and the weather is supposed to be wonderful next week.

Default I'll make a sad little joke ...

Why should I go to Yosemite, when Yosemite keeps coming to us?

Today's Air Quality: 211, "Very Dangerous". It's WAY better to do your breathing in Beijing than Reno.

Fortunately, we're leaving on a trip tomorrow. But, we're going to Idaho.

On the news tonight, they said that the smoke from the Rim Fire was reaching the lower western part of Idaho. There are also a bunch of fires in Idaho...

http://www.inciweb.org

It's really sad. Last year it was Lake Almanor, one of our favorite CA places. Now it's Yosemite. I got to go to Yosemite twice this summer, once with DD and another with DH. It was amazing. DD and I hiked into Hetch Hetchy and saw the Wapama Falls (and two rattlesnakes on the trail). I've always wanted to go there...glad we went before Hwy 120 burned, the road from Yosemite Valley into Hetch Hetchy is one of the most scenic drives I've ever taken.

The news has been reporting on the horrible air quality in Reno and Lake Tahoe, but it sounds like the Yosemite Valley is pretty much unaffected. There are even reservations to be had in the Valley floor. I can't handle smoke like that, had to leave Lake Almanor early one year because of a nearby fire. It just kills my sinuses.

Come to Santa Cruz, the air quality is great and it was 70 degrees today!
