mattress replacement

All,

I have a 2011 2720 and would like to replace the mattress with something a bit more comfortable.

Do any of you know of anything that would fit?

Perhaps this isn't the answer you are looking for, but we simply added a 1 inch thick "memory foam" pad on top of our existing mattress (king-size pad for around $40. at overstock.com). Both my wife and I now find sleeping much more comfortable. We can still close our TM with the foam in place on top (making really sure the overhead bed lights are off and cool first.) When opening up I can see where the lights impress on the foam but it does not seem to make things too "tight". I think I have read that other people take their foam off, and store it on the floor before closing their TM, especially if using thicker foam...memory foam can I think also be purchased in 1.5, 2, and maybe even 3 inches thick. We often spread a sleeping bag beneath as well when staying somewhere a while but that adds too much thickness to close the shell. In any case, if you look for something other than a Trailmanor mattress, it would have to fit in there, thickness-wise, when you close up.

We use 2 each 3.5 inch REI Camp Bed air pads, no inflation needed, just unroll and open the valves. They do have to be removed when closing the shell, but the comfort level is worth the trouble. VERY Comfortable!

I have a dual-foam mattress (memory foam over dense standard foam), around 3.5 inches thick or so... I've posted the link to it at Overstock somewhere on the boards. I can close the shells with it and sleeping bags/blankets on the bed, but I found that my back still hurt in the morning... So, for the last outing last year I added an inflatable mattress (5-6" high when inflated) underneath. Much more comfortable, although it obviously reduces "head room" in the back. Deflates completely flat, so I can still close up fine, requires a few minutes of inflating at set-up (an annoyance, but my back thanks me for it!)

I've heard of others that use Sleep Number mattresses, although I'm fairly sure they remove them for close-down. I, personally, wouldn't like that solution, but it's clearly a different matter (and personal choice) for everyone.

We use two self inflating futons from LL Bean.

We added 1/2" closed cell foam roll up camp mats under the regular mattress which provided much needed cold weather insulation but still didn't provide adequate cushioning for my bad hip. Like Redhawk we then added two self inflating camp mats (ours are the Cascade Designs Thermarest Camp Rest model) between the closed cell foam and the regular mattress. This is sleeping perfection - as comfortable as our bed at home. Our 2619 closes with the closed cell foam camp mats in place and we just open the valves on the Thermarests, fold them in half, and store them on edge on the floor where they cushion our tv-dvd combo. This system adds virtually nothing to the set up/break down time. - camp2canoe

Interesting. I was unhappy with the foam used in my new 2011 unit that I spent big bucks to have the mattress and the four seat sections redone with a higher quality foam. The TrailManor unit was probably less than six weeks old when I did that.

The guy at the foam shop said he is seeing a lot of people taking week old furniture pads and replacing the foam. The cheap foam compresses too easily.

Here is a picture of our Memory Foam queen size, my wife got it at Wal-Mart I think she said she paid a little under $100.00, I think we got ripped off Don't get one over 2 inches. We really like it.

The reason we have this photo is because when we pack up we forget where the microwave & over the sink cabinet goes and the La-Z-Boy. The last trip last week we did the picture.

On the way to Payson, AZ. last week I stopped at a gravel place and put the TM on the scale unhitched from the TV. It weighted 3,700 lbs. Our 2010 new Ford Explorer (last year to be built on a truck frame) pulls 5,000 lbs. and the mountains here are no problem at all. We really like it.
