I'm not sure on the older models, but on the newer models (or likely the models since the cabinets were introduced) that mounting area is one spot where TM continued to use wood behind the thin skin so the mounting screws had something substantial enough to bite into.

If your TM were missing the wood backing, you could probably use well-nuts to secure the bracket to the thin skin (do a search on well-nuts and you should get a few hits on how people have used them...inclduing me to mount LCD TV brackets on the thin wall).

Don't know how they are attached Mike, except that they are very secure and I have not heard of any pulling out. I suspect it is some sort of pop rivet. Since pop-ups are usually storage deficient, they are absolutely necessary, and a really terrific idea. They take just an instant to hang up and take down. Just remember to store the light stuff in them.

Thanks again for the replies. I did some 'wall knocking' over the sink, and just from the sound, it appears there is a 4" - 6" solid piece at the top of the wall, where the wall meets the ceiling. However, there doesn't appear to be a similar solid piece over the range - I guess this vintage 2619 was before the factory started offering an over-the-range cabinet.

What I would like to do is mount a small, hanging shelf over the range for a small microwave. My thought was to make a L-shape shelf, using the same flush-mount brackets as the cabinets use, to hang the shelf. I will give the well-nuts a try for mounting the wall-half of the flush mount bracket.

Thanks again for your input, I'll let you know how it turns out...

Question

Hello, I'm a newbe. I purchased a 2010 TM2720 and ordered the over-sink and over-stove cabinets from TM but installation instructions wasn't included in the delivery. Does anyone know the height, etc. the cabinets need to be hung. I emailed TM a week ago and haven't gotten a response so i called this afternoon but Eddie wasn't in at that time. I left a message. Hopefully I'll get a return call soon.

Late reply, but in case the factory didn't get back to you:

On my TM there is a thin (1" x 1/16th or so) molding strip that runs along the top of the kitchen walls. I mounted my brackets so the top of the bracket would be just under that molding strip.

Measure the hooks on the cabinet and that distance can be used as a guide on how far apart to mount the brackets on the wall. Distance = center of 1st bracket to center of 2nd bracket.
