Default Wiring Channels

I was wondering if anyone has removed the wire channel moulding from the front and/or rear of the TM? I have purchased LED clearance lights, but I found the wires are very, very short to the existing fixtures, and I will need to lengthen them in order to wire in the new lights. I was wondering how the moulding is attached and is it easy to remove/replace? Any tricks to doing it I guess.

Thanks.

People complain about the Thetford, well they have not had the opportunity to remove and replace a wire channel. They are miserable to work with. There is no room and they go back on very hard. Been there done that and I would avoid opening up more than what you need. If one wire gets out of place you are not going to get things back together. I sure wish they had used a conduit system over the channel system.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks Dave. I remember when I had a leak in the front shell and the water was dripping on the table from the plastic channel and I took it down and couldn't get it back up, I had to have the dealer do it.

In this case, I am actually referring to the wood cove moulding at the front and back upper rear wall. I looks like a crown moulding almost. I believe that all of the clearance lights are wired from that area, (I hope so anyhow).

My 2004 3023 does not have the wood moulding, it is all plastic channel. I have no idea what your issues will be.

But I still wish you good luck, would like to hear about your experience.

Hi Civil_War_Buff,

I had to remove the wood trim and the replacement is with nail/braids from a airgun and caulk on the backside helped, I then painted over all my mistakes. hahahaha

Are you changing the running and tail lights? I was thinking about going LED outside for my next project and would like to see your results.

Good Luck
Bob

One piece of our upper rear inside molding came loose, I used double sided foam tape to stick it back on. It's held up so far, after a few years.

Dee, so there is no obvious way that the moulding attaches? No nails like the sidewalls?

I am starting to get a little depressed here over this...I thought it would be easy!

Thanks Bob, I have a brad gun and was hoping that the moulding was attached like the sidewall mouldings, and that is what it sounds like based on your response. Also, because you had to remove it, I am assuming that the wires are pretty easy to work with once opened, right?

Yes, I am changing out both the running lights and tail lights with LED. I also found a license plate holder that is lighted with LEDs so that will go on as well. I will photo-document the project and share the link when I get done.

Larry
