Refirgerator Freezer Frosting

The freezer in our 2004 2720SL frosts up. There is frost and even ice forming on the inside walls, ceiling and lip. This takes up room that I could use for food. The only solution I have found is to defrost it with a hairdryer. We have the refrigerator running on electric (shore power). Does this happen to anyone else? How can I avoid this problem? Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you might have the temperature set too low (5 on the dial). Try setting the temperature knob to 3 and see if that helps.

How long does it take to frost up like that? Over time they will frost up.

We froze our lettuce one time by setting the temp too low. We took the temperature sender from our wireless thermometer and stuck it in the frig. It's been there ever since. No more guessing about what's going on in there.

The refrigerators used in Trailmanors are not "frost free" such as you find in most homes.

Unless you live in a very dry climate, frost and even ice will form in the freezer and even on the coils in the refrigerator section.

Never use sharp objects to remove ice. These refrigerators contain ammonia, which is toxic, and in some concentrations, flammable.

Where always freezing eggs and lettuce at least one time a year. We do a lot of fall and spring dry camping.

If you put a barrier on top of the fragile stuff (eggs & lettuce) like a package of flour tortillas, or something else flat on the shelf above that will prevent the cold from migrating downward in the frig, it will help keep the lower items from freezing.

There's a fairly complex conversion to make the fridge run on a digital thermostat, which helps prevent this issue. I can attest that the conversion works, but it is not for the faint of heart.

Outside of that, careful monitoring of the temp and adjustment of the knob is about the best you can do...

It happens to us when we put these things on the bottom shelf.

I have heard if you keep a small fan running in the fridge you can resolve this issue. Have not tried it, but this winter I bought a small fridge fan that run on a "D" battery
