Ok to run bathroom fan all the time?
Hi all,
Just went out to real camping last weekend.
It was pretty cool but when the gray tank started to fill up it was time to go for us.
Anyhow I am wondering if it's ok to leave the bathroom fan on all the time. My wife complained the chemical smell from the toilet and the problem was solved when the fan was on.
Where is the fan located at?
Thanks.

I don't know where the actual fan is, but I find it interesting that we never use the fan.
We only have an odor when the temperature exceeds 90, which is rare at the igh altitudes we normally camp at.
I have never heard anyone suggest that it should not be run continuously. However, the only thing louder is the furnace.
We do keep that bathroom window open, weather permitting, just in case.

The bathroom fan in your model TM is builtin on the side of the bath tub, next to the toilet.

Not quite sure, but I thought only the intake was on the side of the tub. I thought the fan was down below on the bottom of the unit.

Obviously if you are running off the battery there is a power management reason for not running the fan in the head 24/7 that is not a concern when on shore power. We frequently run the fan to help dry off the shower curtain faster. One caveat - the fan on our '05 2619 is somewhat noisy outside the TM so we try to be considerate in its use early, particularly if we are next door to people tent camping.
One other thing - I find that my grey water tank monitor is pessimistic and I still have considerable capacity when it registers as being full. On your next trip when the light indicates "full" try running the shower until the drain water won't go down the drain - you may be pleasantly surprised to find that you have more capacity than indicated. - camp2canoe

On the fan, I can't see why it would be that bad to run it all the time either - worst case, you'll wear it out quicker, but it looks fairly easy to replace to me, and I imagine you would have to do a *LOT* of camping to wear it out that way.
On the graywater pessimistic gauge issue, I've noticed the same thing - I know "2/3" on my system monitor corresponds to about 15 gallons, so that's my "halfway" mark.

If you look under the trailer from the rear you can see the bolts with the sensor wires mounted on the gray water tank, and they look like they are set conservatively with maybe 20% of the tank volume above the highest one. Knowing this, I might push the envelope a little while keeping an eye on the shower drain.

It's just a 12V muffin fan like in a computer. They are brushless but some of the cheaper ones have plastic bearings that wear out quicker. I don't think it will hurt to run it a great deal. Computers run day and night.
The sound and battery drain is more annoying than the smell. I do leave the window open all the time and that doesn't seem to drain the battery as fast. You are leaving the toilet lid down right? Also the rule (for men) is to sit when using the toilet.
