Just FYI, it can get local signals, HD or not. An antenna does not know, or care, about the difference. Attempts to tell you different are bogus hype.

funpilot,

Hope I'm not misleading you....
I have a newer, 2013 TM w/King HDTV antenna like your link shows). Though your antenna switch may be located differently than mine, you do have to switch it on before you can search for channels, or bring in most TV signals (my switch is located where the coax connector & face plate are located - on the side of the frig and has a green indicator light when switched "on" and able to bring in a signal).

Funpilot,

Can you show a picture of that antenna on your TM?

Dave

Wait. I can see the pictures at TM's website. That looks like a much cooler antenna. May have to think about an upgrade.

My understanding is that the button is not just an on-off but switches from the external coax connector on the street side when the light is off and to the roof antenna when on. Also do not know if the amp is on just the roof or both.

I understood that when the green light is on that the amplifier for the antenna is power on. If you connect to the park cable you should not have the green light or the amplifier distorts the reception???

I could be wrong, since I never used a TV in the TM and have never tested it? But it is a very close setup to an older camper I had. I did bring a TV with tha camper and that is how that antenna worded.

When should the green light be on??

Tentcamper -

You are pretty much right in your conclusions.

You probably have a crank-up Winegard antenna, but I think the Jack operates the same way. The amplifier is up at the antenna. When the green light is on, it means that 12-volt power is being sent up the cable to operate the amplifier. As Padgett said, it also means that the system is taking the TV signal from the antenna, and sending it to the television.

When you turn the green light off, it not only turns off power to the amplifier, but it switches the system so it takes the TV signal from the cable input on the side of the trailer and sends it to the television.

Why do I think that the Jack antenna operates the same way as the Winegard? Because Jack says that you can remove the Winegard antenna / amplifier from the top of the crank up arm, and install a Jack antenna in its place. No need to change anything else, such as cables or the button inside.

BTW, I don't know the difference (if any) between the Jack antenna and the King Jack that you pictured.

Does the Jack antenna work any better than the old Winegard one or is it just more compact?
