There are two KOA's an East and West. There is dry camping at North Mills River, USFS. There is also dry camping at Lake Powhatan, USFS. Dry camping At Mt Pisgah@ 5000 feet on the BRPW.

Here is an image from my AllStays app.(highly recommended) Mt Pisgah on Blue Ridge Parkway. KOAs are the yellow icons on I40. Powhatan and North Mills River are the green icons near Mt. Pisgah. There are a few more independents on the area.

This time of year, I go for the elevation. Love the BRP. Hope this helps.

This is very helpful indeed...unless it's late and I'm dead tired, is the ONLY way I'll stay at any campground next to an interstate or railroad track (or even worse...both! ). Been there done that too many times. I guess the most horrific place that I have ever tried to sleep at was Black Barts in Flagstaff AZ.. It's next to I-40, across the freeway from the Santa Fe RR tracks and right next door to a diesel truck farm where the semi's run their engines 24/7. A constant 50 Hz rumble ALL stinking night! So if you ever go to Flagstaff...stay at the park that has the supposedly child molester...at least it will be quieter there and there probably won't be a bunch of screaming kids running around like wild Indians! But mainly it's well off the freeway and not near the RR tracks either. Just don't let your kids run free there!
Tom ...who loves peace and quiet..

We have reservations next month (our TM shakedown cruise) at Lake Powhatan, site 75 with full hookups. Made the res through Recreation.gov and got $121 off the stay with a National Parks Service Senior pass. Close to Asheville and Biltmore so lots to see. Will let you know how campsite was, but RVreviews have given it high marks.
