Default Lighting Stove Burner

I didn't use propane on my first trip with my TM last week, but would like to on my next trip for the stove and water heater. Propane kinda scares me a little bit... so, my question is how to light the stove burner. I read that you should light one burner on the stove using a gas match and do this before trying to ignite the water heater (so that air will have been purged from propane lines). However, in looking at my stove and reading the manufacturer instructions, it appears that I can either light the burner with a gas match or I can light it using the SPARK knob. Does this sound correct? And, anyone have an opinion about which is better (safer) way to light stove burner?

Thanks for your input/help.

Propane is safe when used properly, make sure you have water in tank and open propane valve. Then you can use water heater switch, it will light after it purges air if any is present. Use the spark for stove , keep sparking until one burner lights. Should not be a lot of air in lines.

Cindy, the older model stoves did not have the spark starter, (or piezo igniter in the manual). One did have to use a match, but with the current stoves, you can follow the manufacturer's instructions. You still have to use a match to light the oven pilot light.

I, too, am a bit leary around propane, but have had no trouble lighting our stove with the igniter.

Cindy,

Since you have a fairly new camper it should work just fine, turning the clicker knob. I normally use a long lighter; which you can by in stores; for the first light of the trip. It sometimes takes a few seconds or a minute or two for the gas to make it to the burner before it lights.
I use an extra long lighter to get the oven lit, since you have to reach to the very back of the oven to light the pilot flame. Bought mine on Amazon, works great and refillable.
