Default Sticking stove top cover hinge problem

I have a stove top cover in my 2005 2720SL that does not like to go up and lock or unlock come down once up. Has anyone reinforced or replaced these hinges? I did go in and tighten the screws. The whole attachment of the top to the stove is very flimsy.

If there is a mod that worked out please post it for me.

If not:
What would the effect of simply removing the cover be? We don't use the area for food prep or anything else when the stove is not in use. It doesn't look like anything would touch the top of the stove and get dirty.

MY problem is with the cover that goes over the burner grills. The hinge tabs in the back are so wobbly that they do not want to go into place when opened or release to close. I have had the stove out and worked on all the parts but this seems to be a design flaw, not damage.

Our 2001 doesn't have the cover. The top of the stove always gets very dusty. Maybe the black just shows it. That's the only advantage I can see.

If the stovetop grate comes off easily, the cover can keep it from popping off during travel. A pillow on top of the grate will do the same thing.

Default Sticking Stove Top Cover Hinge

We also have a 2005 model 2720 SL, and the stove cover is somewhat tedious to deal with, but it's manageable. Our bigger problem is cleaning under the grate around the stove burners. I haven't seen a good way to remove the grate for cleaning. Neither my wife nor I can reach under there very well to clean. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I removed the clips that secure the grate. Easy to clean now. When traveling, I put a pillow on top of the grate to keep it secure.

The stove top cover can be finicky to deal with. When closing the cover, you must first lift it vertically approximately 1/4' to 1/2" to unlock it before starting to swing it down to cover the grate. It is designed this way so it does not unintentionally drop down over the grate when the stove is in use. When opening, it should drop down automatically into the "lock".

Hope this helps.

We also have this problem. To remove the grate, the stovetop cover (the one under the burners) must be pulled up, which isn't real easy, and the clips removed. A pain to do every single time we're out camping, which is about how often the stove gets filthy. It's a dirt magnet for some reason, even if we don't cook on it.

We don't currently have the stove cover that goes over the burner. But from reading everyone's posts, sounds like we could remove the grill retaining clips (so that the grill can just be lifted out) and buy a cover to keep the grill in place while traveling. Would this work? How does the cover attach to the stove? To those same 2 screws that the stovetop cover (under the burners) attaches to?

Default Stove grate

The clips that came on my stove grate poped off on the first trip and put dents in the ceiling. I drilled cross holes in all four of the grate rods that go thru the grommets and put a washer and hitch pin thru the cross hole. To remove the grate for cleaning, just pull out the hitch pins and remove the grate.

But doesn't that mod require you to still pull up the cover that rests under the burner to access those clips, Harry?

Default Stove cover

Yes, but to remove the metal pan I push back on the top and lift off.
