Getting ready for the next power outage, so I tested my home basic Whirlpool fridge. Test was done with icemaker and lights disabled.
The sticker on the fridge says: Full load amp 6.5A.
Normal running tested around 118W (0.91A).
With a few 4-7 day tests the KillAWatt meter says my peaks watts are 864 and 859 !
That exceeds the sticker!
Watching the meter I never saw the surges and assume they were very short.
So my cheap 800watt/900surge generator should run the fridge.
Also interesting was my house voltage varied from 112 to 123 in one week.

I have a 1450 watt gen set with 1800 peak and it will barely start a small refrig so don't be surprised if yours won't. The compressor is going to take a lot to start. Once its running it won't draw much at all. I am not surprised about your line voltage..happens more often then we realize.
