Default securing door top when closed - plastic latch

We have the basic 19' Trailmanor. Has anyone had a problem with the small latch that keeps the top of the door closed when trailer is in the down position for traveling or storage? We had a situation where this toggle was blown closed while we were inside the trailer forcing an emergency route escape. Also, several times while we were traveling this latch blew open causing the top of the door to open and flap around. At those times the latch was tightened but we have noticed that traveling seems to loosen the screw and we are wary of these problems happening again. We would like to replace this latch with something that is less prone to accidental closing or opening and would like to know if any one else has had this problem and how they were able to correct.

Default Comments on Latch

The plastic latch on the left of the top section has always been very stiff, almost requiring two hands to turn into locking position. We've had our TrailManor for two years now, and it is only a little bit looser. I've never had any problem with the latch moving after I've positioned it.

Maybe, you should give TrailManor a call and see if they can suggest a fix for you.

Happy Camping!

I've had half this problem - I've never been trapped in! (I think others have had the door come open too). It seemed that the part of the plastic latch that stuck out over the door was too short, and if the trailer flexed, it could come open. I put a piece of stiff plastic tubing about 2 inches long over the part of the latch that protrudes over the door. That fixed it...mostly. On our last trip the door was open when we got home. I may have not secured it properly before leaving.

I had the same problem with the door coming open while towing. I installed another latch just like the orginal at the bottom of the door. The door stays closed now with both of them latched.
