Default Fresh Water Tank Fill

Newbie here.
Is the fresh water tank filled up when I hook up city water?

Nope.

There is a filler next to the city water hookup for filling the fresh water tank. They are completely separate supply systems. If you have hookups there is no reason to use the fresh water tank. Also, when using either water supply, run water into your water heater until air stops coming out the faucet. If you turn on the electric water heater and the tank is not full you will probably burn up the heating element in a milisecond!

Note: Many of us have installed a marine deck lid on the top of your fresh water tank. Makes it massively easier to dry and clean.

As far as getting water into the water heater, is that achieved when I hook up to city?
Will water heater fill when filling fresh water tank?
In either case, I need hot water faucets open to purge air. Correct?

Yes. Whether you are on your own tank, or city water, you must open the hot water faucet and run until no air is coming out, before turning on the hot water heater.

Just to clarify a bit -

If you hook up to city water and open a hot water faucet, the water heater will fill. When water runs from the faucet, it is safe to turn on the electric water-heating element.

If you fill the fresh water tank, and open a hot water faucet, nothing will happen until you also turn on the water pump and hear it run. When water runs from the faucet, it is safe to turn on the electric water-heating element.

Either way, the key is water running clear from the hot water faucet. BTW, you probably already know, but the switch for the electric hreating element is outside the camper. The indoor switch controls the gas heating element.

Thank you for this information. My husband has been filling up the fresh water tank for the water heater when having full hookups. He assumed that when the water heater needs filling it is taking it from the fresh water tank.

thanks,
Diana
