Default Anyone planning to cancel camping at Yellowstone in August?

If anyone is going to cancel camping reservations at any campground at Yellowstone in August 2021, particularly the second week, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know when you plan to do that so I can get on and try to reserve it myself.

It's crazy out there!

We have reservations August 12 through the 20th. I will let you know if we want to cancel, but I really want to go there before I die. It's on my bucket list.

The kids are supposed to meet us there. They live in Denver now.

Trying to fix the tongue jack on the TM now, the lower hole in our tongue is way smaller than the top hole, DH is going to drill it out with a hole saw..it was way too windy here today to do it.

Yeah, it is crazy for reservations. We like to go to Seacliff I tried for two months to get reservations without any success. Guy that I talked to said that everyone is going RV'ing and that demand is insane.

If you want to come to Santa Cruz we have a space in our yard that you could park in. Just south of Manresa Beach.

Thanks so much, that’s very nice! I hope you get to go, and I hope the crowds are too insane as well.

We also have reservations for the Grant Village Campground from August 13-16 that I got back in January (my guess is someone canceled too). I hope we can go, but if we have to cancel, I will let you know!

Hi all,

Good luck finding something. We're going to try to book something for 2022 and are looking at Grant Village. I see that the site lengths at Yellowstone are for "combined vehicle" (Trailer and Tow Vehicle). As such, it looks like we will be limited to the "up to 50 foot" sites. I think all of the Yellowstone campgrounds are like this. I presume everyone with a TM books an "up to 50 foot" site, or do you know something I don't?

John -

I can only speak for Fishing Bridge campground. Although FB is crowded and the sites are small, each site is wide enough to park your tow vehicle beside your trailer rather than in line with it. This may not help the guys with the Monster Montana fifth wheels with 5 slides, but it works well for a TM.

I suggest that you look at the satellite view of the desired campground in one of the mapping programs like Google maps. This will give you an idea of how the sites are laid out and how wide they are.

I camped at Yellowstone a couple years ago and stayed in Madison campground. The sites are curved, and they were not 50 ft long. My truck and camper fit just fine with decent room on the front and back of the site. The reservation folks were great in helping me when I made the reservations.

Default Follow-up

Hi all,

As a follow-up to my comment earlier, I made some contacts with the NPS as well as "Yellowstone National Park Lodges," which manages several of the campgrounds. I thought the feedback may be useful to some of you. They both indicated that they strictly enforce site lengths and that for our rig of "F150 + 30-foot Trailmanor," we should focus on one of the following sites:

30 foot RV plus "extra vehicle"
40 foot RV plus "extra vehicle"
50 foot RV with or without extra tent (only a handful available in the park)

In the meantime, the Yellowstone National Park Lodges opened reservations this morning for 2022 and we have, fortunately and excitedly, secured a site (30-foot with extra vehicle) at Grant Village campground.

I hope this may be helpful to some of you. Best wishes to all for some great trips and good luck with reservations!

John

Your TM is a little longer than ours, but if you can park your truck somewhere else (I think there are other places to park, you should call them).

One of the kids would probably take our reservations if we can't go. Trying to get our kitty into a harness this weekend, don't know how that's going to go. He is 13 or 15 years old, just showed up after our other cat died, she was about 20 when she died, she got dumped out here after the Loma Prieta Earthquake. When we took her camping for the first time I think she was about 18. Our new boy is a wild child. There is a RV forum for people with cats on Facebook that I've been checking out. I would like to find a tracking device for him in case he gets lost.

If the kids don't want the campsite, and we can't go either, we will let you know.

I hate leaving our cat when we go camping, he's such a sweet baby, and we all love him so much! Can't take him on many of the trails in Yellowstone.

Default Yellowstone anyone?

We finally decided to cancel our reservations in Yellowstone, cat sitters have other plans for the time we would be there. The kids can't get away from their jobs so I am again offering to help someone who wants to go by coordinating our online cancellation with a time that you would be available to be online to book it .

Let me know!
