Default Blown Fuse AGAIN

Hey all,
Just got back from our second trip out, this time to Lake Powell. After setting the TM up the rear 20amp fuse blew out again- this is the second time I've used the trailer. Is this a fairly common occurrence or am I looking at a short somewhere?

If you are talking about the glass fuse at the battery, it should be 30A. Also if you still have the glass fuse, the contacts in the fuse holder get corroded and will cause problems. Suggest you replace it with ATC ( Large blade type fuse holder then you can use either blade fuses or a blade equipped breaker.

For the longest time I wasn't sure what you guys were talking about w/r to "blade" fuses. So I googled and came up with this site which has lots of options for blade fuses and breakers:
http://www.cooperbussmann.com/6/Blad...cessories.html

Maybe it will help. There are other sites too, like this: http://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/en-us/d28.html

Am I correct in saying that ATM is the "mini" style blade, ATC is the standard style and MAXI is the big blade fuse?

That's what they look like, and I'm pretty sure those are their correct names. The specific type of fuse per se isn't so important, it's the quality and size of the contact between the fuse and fuse holder/block. If the contact isn't very good, i.e. loose, or if it is particularly small, there will be greater resistance at that connection, which will generate heat. It will also be a place where you will have a voltage drop.

A huge bolt-on fuse block would have the least amount of resistance, but the typical current draws in the TM aren't significant enough to warrant that beefy of a device.

no its the 20 amp fuse for the rear electricity that keeps going out- not the battery.

If the fuse keeps blowing there are two possibilities:
1) the load is greater than 20A - or_
2) you have a short. (which of course can also be considered a greater than 20A load).

Try to follow the wire and see if it is pinched or if the item plugged into the system is greater than 20A.

Good luck!

There are no 20 amp fuses in my TM. The only house fuses on my TM are one 30 amp fuse at the battery, and a bunch of 15 amp fuses at the DC distribution panel directly above the converter on the bathroom wall.

Where is your 20 amp fuse?

Dave

On the newer 2720s I think the elect tongue jack is not wired to the batt but to a fuse in the panel.

The 20's are in the panel at the bottom of the bathroom wall-I believe that the top two (rear and front fuses) are the 20's and there are few other smaller fuses. the rear 20amp is the one that has blown a few times which is frustrating as hell. I have a friend with a 2005 3023 who had similar issues- reported that he needed to have some rewiring done/ marine battery added to stop the problem from reoccuring

If the battery is discharging and recharging, and the only problem you're having is replacing this fuse, I don't see how replacing the battery would solve the issue. As was mentioned earlier, you may have a wire with worn insulation somewhere that is shorting to ground.

Can you tell precisely when the fuse blows? Is it repeatable?
