Default Blowing off steam

Howdy folks,

This week the DW and I took two grandkids down to Mission Bay in San Diego. Normally, I do not use a bikerack on the back of the TM. But, since mine has the optional 2" receiver and the kids wanted to bring their bikes, I said ok.

The fun began when I plugged their dad's good quality bike rack into the receiver and attempted to insert a standard 5/8" hitch pin into the holes in the side. It would not go through!!

I took out the bike rack and checked the holes. It fit with no problem at all. The problem was that the holes in the reciever were just a smidgen too small.

Ah, I thinks...this must be a cheap foreign made hitch pin. So I tried a couple of others...still no fit.

I solved the problem by buying a locking hitch pin with a 1/2 inch shaft. My question is how in the world could TM have installed such a poorly made reciever on such an expensive product?

I know I could have shaved a few thousandths off the holes if a had the right bit...but didn't.

Tom

I have a Yakima rack that works fine with other receivers, but when using the receiver on the back of the TM I have to pursuade the pin thru with a couple of hits from a hammer.

Mine must have been drilled with the same bit as yours
