Dave thanks for the info. We prefer to cook outside when possible too. Will have to look into doing this also.

I cook outside as well but just bought one of those adapter cable deals that uses your TM's propane to supply anything that a disposable propane cannister would do. I have to remain within 12 feet of my propane bottles but that has not proved to be a concern. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...tay-flow/30341

I do the same, but I have an additional 12' if I want/need it.

It works great, and it's one less thing for us to worry about.

By the way, the option from TM is not truly removable - it is a swing-away affair, but I don't think you can actually remove it. FWIW.

Bill,

As others have said......it does come off (on my '04). Mine came off easily. The newer ones may be different.

Default Swing Hitch Retrofit

Custom RV in SoCal recently quoted around 750 to modify the hitch to swing away. The factory option only swings to the drivers side with the passenger side pin mounted inboard of the frame and only secures the hitch in tow position. Custom builds the hitch mod with both pins on the outside of the frame so the hitch can be swung (swang? swinged?) either way. Both versions could be removable.

I modified mine myself with $100 in materials, a borrowed welder and a plasma cutter. It's a weekend and at least 2 six-pack project for a shade tree fabricator. I don't recommend you do it yourself unless your pretty confident in your welding skills, since the only thing pulling your 3500lb trailor down the road is a few inches of welding bead.

The factory design would be pretty easy for a welding shop to duplicate, and if you brought them a picture of how you want it built you'll likely get a better price than if the shop has to design something. the pivot pins are just simple hitch pins with a lock, available on amazon for a few bucks.
