Default There is much to learn and understand

the intricate dynamics of the TM opening and closing system.

But, to answer your question, I use a piece of yellow pine to assist with
the opening and closing. If you search on "My favorite piece of yellow pine"
you will see my post about it. I believe every TM owner should have their
piece of yellow pine, similar to mine.

Also, search and read posts about the opening and closing of the TM, and
also watch youtube videos. Much to learn, be patient, and take your time.
There are a few experts who have posted guidelines and instructions about
the lifting and closing, and maybe they will offer some tips...

I will offer one bit of advice, and that is: Do not force anything!
Some pics of your TM might help for understanding.

Keep asking, and you will get answers!

Hello, a few questions. Is it a latching issue or that one or both shells don't drop/stow far enough down to enable latching?
As mickmanor suggested, a couple pics can help us give you better direction to figure out the issue.
Also, do you have anything on top of either mattress?

A few things come to mind. Firstly, do you have blankets/comforters on the beds? The shells come down pretty much onto the surface of the beds when they are stored, any thick bedding will make it more difficult to close the final bit.

The second thing to look at after ensuring nothing on the bed is to take a look at the adjustment bolts underneath. You can back them off to lessen the "lift" of the torsion bars with the understanding that removing "lift" makes opening that much more difficult.

FWIW, I use a stainless tube to do the last cinch on my rear shell as I have replaced the torsion bars and they are fresh. This makes it tougher for us to get that last inch of closure, hence the stainless lever.
