Big Bend Texas
Well, it's that time of year. Every December for the last few years, we have loaded up the TM and gone camping for a week or more to ring in the new year. From Florida to AZ, weve spent some great times in the winter. This year, weather permitting, it's Big Bend National Park region. To be more specific we are putting in at Lajitas on the Rio Grande River. We take our cruiser motorcycle with us and take daily rides to explore the area. Presidio, Marfa, Santa Elena Canyon, Boquillas Crossing which is now open to visit the Mexican village across the river. The to-do list is long.

We went to Big Bend in the early 70's, took a leaky boat across to Boquillas and lunch there. Even rode the Burros into town. That was Mom and Dads first time to camp with us. We camped at the basin. Plan on stopping there on the way back from AZ.

It's a great area (huge area). We like the Davis Mountains area even better than Big Bend. And swimming at Balmorhea State Park. Shoot, it's been too long, I'm ready to pack up and go.

+1 on all of that. Maybe we need to have a Forum rally at Big Bend?

Excellent idea. Count me in. From my understanding, if you want camp sites in the park during peak season of spring or fall, one year advance reservations may be necessary.
Wife and I were out there spring break 2012 for 8 days and could not get in all the things we wanted to do. Heading back there on the 26th of this month for another week. As was told to me last time, when your on a motorcyle out there, you don't pass a gas stop. Next one just may be 100 more miles. River Road from Terlingua to Presidio along the Rio Grande rates as one of the best MC roads in the nation.

Only negative thing I've discovered about National Parks is that they don't allow dogs on the hiking trails.
All the State Parks I've been to do allow dogs to hike with you on a leash. I did some research on Davis Mountains and that area looks really nice.

Checked into the CG to check it out; staying two days here rather then a private CG in Van Horn .
This one is a keeper.

We go to the Davis Mountains State Park twice a year, very relaxing place and the people are very friendly. This year was the first time we skipped our Oct trip due to me having a knee replacement, looking forward to a trip in the spring! You won't be sorry, the scenery is incredible . We always get the full hookups, nice roomy sites.

Are you at Balmorhea? I was checking that park out online a couple of weeks ago. It looks like a nice destination.

The spring fed swimming pool at Balmorhea is incredible. The campground is nothing to write home about but it has the usual nice Texas State Park facilities.
