Hmmm. I don't mean to flog the issue, Bob, but I can't think why it would be difficult to reset. Put the GFCI behind a curtain and bring the feedline out. On your side of the curtain, you can connect the feedline to either a standard utility outlet or the outlet on an inverter generator. Because it is behind the curtain, the GFCI can't see which connection you make. And because it doesn't have any connection to the ground (green) wire, it can't be affected by what is going on there.
And with regard to

... the common side of AC from an invertor can have 65VAC on it.

It is important to remember that voltages at one place are always measured with respect to some other point. It may be ground, or it may not, but this is not just a semantic distinction. So I have to ask, 65VAC with respect to what?
A good analogy is altitude. If I ask "What is the altitude of Mt Everest
above sea level?", then the answer is 29,029 feet. And if I ask "What is the altitude of Annapurna
above sea level?", then the answer is 26,545 feet. And if I ask "What is the altitude of Mt Everest
above Annapurna?", then the answer is 2484 feet. In each case, you have to say "with respect to what". With altitude, it may be commonly understood to be "sea level", though that's not always the case. In electricity, there is no such assumption.
Again, not meaning to beat a dead deed ...
