Thefts and Burglaries!
I am almost 70, but I can still remember in the 1950’s parking on side streets in our town of 20+ thousand with my car windows down, shopping for Christmas, and throwing the packages into the car as I passed by on the way to the next store, then going home with all packages still in the car. Our house was never locked either.
Earlier this week, I went to my outside, but gated and fenced, storage facility and while doing some torsion bar adjusting (takes a while), a guy in a nice dually drove up and mentioned that his and four other fivers/coaches had been broken into during/after Sandy with tv’s, electronics, and other removable stolen. Guess the security cameras were off or obscured?
A couple of days later, a neighbor up the street came by to say that his house (with ADP installed and on) was broken into and several rooms torn up (they avoided the motion detectors).
Then, a couple of days after that, we (ourselves) received a prescription-med mail delivery that had been opened somewhere while in custody of the Post Office and two out of three prescriptions (non-narco but commonly used meds) were taken.
Personally, I would be in favor of the Muslim custom of cutting the right hand off of thieves (politicians?), but that is not likely to happen.
Seriously, I did take a close look at our TM to see if I could beef up its security. Fortunately, most thieves have yet to figure out how to open it (no comment), but I did buy a set of four matched-key locks and placed them on the corner latches. I also had the local hardware store make up a 27 inch coated cable bicycle locking chain which I wrapped around the propane cylinders to slow any theft. When set up, our TM already has a deadbolt lock installed, and we always use the pins that hold the front and rear shells in place. We also have hitch locks in place.
Nothing is ever theft proof, but I feel better now.
