61,549 on a 07 Saturn Outlook. I would say half of the miles were towing. Perhaps more?

I find it interesting that the largest percentage of us have higher mileage trucks that we plan on having a long time...

Probably speaks for the 'values' that members of this forum have. Just guessing but most TrailManor owners are more concerned with gas mileage of the TV than owners of other trailers.

BTW 160K on the Honda Pilot hope for another 40K or two years whichever comes first.

Our Issuzzu has 126K miles, Hope to get 200K, Had to replace tranny couple years ago. Put a cooler on at that time and drove it 25K since. Seems to get about 15 mpg on good day and 13.5 on bad when pulling the TM. Not too bad for the old girl. 1 quart of oil every 2500 miles.

Lightbulb preventing transmission failures

The people who have described either "current issues", or unexpected Death of their TV's have almost all listed 'tranny trouble' as the problem.

Here's my first hint: Even if it isn't shown in your maintenance schedule, I feel that "There Ain't No Such Thing as A Lifetime Tranny Fluid." Replace every 50-70K miles. (50-60K for the first change, because the break-in period is tough on the fluid; 60-70K thereafter. Maybe even more often, if you tow in extremely hot weather.)

And here's my second hint, although it's a bit long to read and subtle to understand. It's with regard to automatic transmissions (and applies to all TVs and SUVs equiped with automatics, not just the Toyotas in the title):

Looking at Ford Excursion Diesel replacement, it seems I am always at the limits (with four dogs and accoutrement for hunting) the EXCURSION would give me plenty of breathing room and more dog space.

Anybody used an Excursion as TV? I know with the capacity it is fine in any engine configuration. How about the mechanics of the long overhang from the rear axle to the hitch?

Any weirdness because of the long overhang?

Still planning on keeping the Pilot for daily use for another year >, actually getting better gas mileage now than ever. A friend said "just broke in", possibly.

No personal experience, but have heard nothing but good things about the Excursion.

As for the overhang, it does move your pivot point back, so small changes at the steering wheel will give you bigger responses at the trailer when backing up.

It will also cause the tongue weight to tilt more front end weight onto the rear axle. But if that's a problem, the WDH can fix it.
