We will probably need more details about the configuration of the Tacoma before we can offer meaningful advice. Engine size is somewhat important, of course, but the presence/absence of Toyota's factory towing package probably means more. Beyond that, what do you have in mind for the "hills" you plan to tow in? There are some pretty decent "hills" in the Appalachian area of Pennsylvania, for instance. But when you get out west and encounter the Rockies and Sierras, it is a much different story.
Just as a starter, you should plan on a trailer weight of about 4000 pounds in ready-to-camp configuration. This is well within the towing-capacity spec of most (but not all) Tacoma models, but it is worth checking.
