Replacement Wheel

Hi, I have a 2008 3124. Recently I had an altercation with a curb and severely bent one of my rims. (15 inch) Is there a standard replacement? I just want to replace the one i bent..

p.s. As a side note, I noticed in another thread that people were buying Maxxi 8008s on Amazon but I can only find load Ds. Did they used to have load Es?

I'm assuming that you have the white-painted wheel with the red and blue stripes. This is probably the most common trailer wheel around, and any tire dealer should be able to get one for you if he doesn't have one in stock. I've also seen them at WalMart, Tractor Supply, and the online trailer parts place like e-trailer.com.

As I recall, the specs are
5-lug
15x6 (6" wide)
Offset 0
Lug bolt pattern 5 on 4-1/2"

One thing to be sure of is the load-bearing capacity - the weight (actually half the weight) of a fully loaded TM. To be safe, I would look for something like 2500 pounds. The load rating is often stamped on the inside of the wheel - the part that is covered by the tire and is not visible when the tire is mounted.

The other place where you can get messed up is in the air pressure rating. It must be rated for the max air pressure you plan to use, which is 80 psi if you plan to use Load Range E tires.

When I removed the tires and rims from the our " New" to Us 2005 2619 and saw the 9 year old dates on the like new Maxxis tires and the weight rating's on the 14 inch rims .
I immediately ordered from e-trailer , 3 Vesper steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - White Rims # 560545WM1 that are rated @ 2,830 lbs. and I had Discount Tire Mount Goodyear Endurance ST 225 75R15 Load Range E Tires .
Had everything balanced and they were dead on .

We just got back from a pleasant and safe 3 week trip to the Maine Coast and the Mt. Washington Valley of Nh.

Bob, your older 2619 was built on top of a Torflex "3500 lb" axle, and your wheel hub is 5 bolts in a 4-1/2 circle.

Trexhunter's 3124 was built with a bigger axle -- possibly the same "Torflex 5000 lb" model which TM was using in my model year 2006. The hub on that axle was built for 15" wheels , 6 bolts on a 5.5 center circle (139.7 mm), rather than just 5 bolts on 4.5 inch centers 114.3 mm).

My own 2619 has that axle as a factory-ordered upgrade. Bill probably described the wrong hub arrangement, but he was CORRECT in warning that the wheel was weak, somewhere around 2050 lbs IIRC. I don't know the exact wheel which may be present on Trexhunter's other hub or his spare, but I replaced mine with this moderately priced silver-finished alternative:

Ultra Motor Sport "062 Trailer", 15" wheel with 6X 139.7 bolt pattern, zero offest, 105mm bore, and 3200 lb maximum load capacity. Part 062-5683KL https://www.ultrawheel.com/wheel/062...u=062%2D5683KL

They do make a 15" rim with small 5* 114.3mm bolt pattern, with 2150 maximum load capacity, under the same "062 Trailer" label and a different part number "062-5665K". Don't get the wrong one! https://www.ultrawheel.com/wheel/062...ku=062%2D5665K

I have just one note regarding this wheel: You can't the wheel's hub cover all the way down into the wheel, the horzintal "height" of the cover is a tiny bit to short to contain the Torflex axle hub (with the grease seals on top). You can leave the hub covers un-attached, or leave a tiny circular gap (between the bottom of the cover and the wheel) after tightning the screws only partway down. I have the covers in place wioth the gap, they've never come off.

E's are probably not necessary (it depends on your loading habits). But you could order either type and have the installation done at discount tire, a national chain which does carry Maxxis. A bit strangely, however, their website does not show my recommended wheel with the correct bolt pattern - even though they do carry quite a few Ultra wheels. After choosing 15", they offer only the small 5 bolt pattern or a larger 8 bolt pattern. Maybe call a local store, have them order the right '062' wheels from Ultra as a special thing?

LR-E might not be necessary but it is what comes on every new TM out of South Dakota.

The new LR-D Maxxis 8008 have the same rating as the old LR-E. I'm not even sure that they make LR-E anymore.

I'm going to be buying 3, LR-D for our trailer next month. I only buy Maxxis.
