I like that. The Pep Boy and other MV50 type's have alligator clips cause they exceed the 15amp rating of the usual cigarette lighter type plug. But my Elkmont's battery is deep inside the trailer and the TV battery is way up front. The trailer plug is outside and right in the middle of the rig. Good idea.

Mine is rated to be something like 14A but it popped a 15A fuse IIRC in my van so it must occasionally draw more. The micro fuses for Toyotas are hard to find too. I actually went mail order because Pep Boys, Autozone, etc didn't have them in stock. I wasn't going to risk it again.

I have this Black and Decker one: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-V.../dp/B000EJV5N8

I have had it since Christmas and used it quite a bit for inflation, but not for jump starting yet. I like it so far.

Thanks,
I ended up getting the MF1050 which is the same as MV50. It is/was also marketed under the Smittybuilt brand. It is made by MasterFlow. The best price I could find was at Pep Boys for $59.99. Apparently Costco used to sell it as well but my local stores didn't have it.

I'll let you know how it works as we're heading to the beach tomorrow.

Well, the MF 1050 failed the test.

- It pumped up tires faster than I expected. 30-70psi in less than 6mins. per tire....... but
- The air hose failed on the 4th tire. A hole blew open in the hose close to the compressor side. The hose gets very hot close to the unit due to the transfer of heat from the compressor itself.

I've tried to contact the manufacturer but they have not responded yet which is also not a good sign as far as I'm concerned.

I have now used the Black and Decker unit for jumpstarting and it works quite well.
