1.7" is correct. The difference is in the radius of the tire and since the radius of the tire is 1/2 the diameter. That works out to 0.85" difference per tire. I just took a short cut and used the difference in diameter for one tire.
Distance = 2.8 - (2.0 x (28.3 / 2.0 - 26.6 / 2.0))

For what it's worth;

The 2010 3326 K was shipped from the factory with 15" Marathons. Perhaps the factory repositioned the axles but I doubt it. I can't measure mine since it is about 20 miles away in a storage yard.

I estimate the distance between the tires to be 2.5". There is room enough to use an "X" brake as shown in the attached photo.
