I have a few more pounds on the front wheels towing than I do running solo because of the WDH. This is important, because the WDH keeps the front axle from weighing 260# less and the rear axle 420# more while towing.
Most of us would have reduced braking and steering performance in addition to overloaded rear axles on the tow vehicle without a WDH. Front wheel drive vehicles have the additional problem of reduced pulling traction.
Rear wheel drive would still provide better traction for starting up. We haven't seen any major issues from having FWD.
