Anything equal to or more than the Magnetek's 30amps would have replaced it. But the simple reason is I'd been eying the new 9160s as well as the Iota 45 and 55amp converters on ebay for some time, then a used PD9155 came up. I bought it for around $50. A bit of a risk, but it checks out just fine.
As for the difference, in addition to the extra 5amps, the 9160 is newer I think with a form factor only 3.6" high instead of 4.5" (but it's longer). After selling both for a while they dropped the 9155 recently, maybe because they are pretty close to each other in power.
The 30A, 40A and 45A Progressive Dynamics converters are candidates, too to replace the old Magnetek, but they all have the older 4.5" high form factor and so would not fit the Magnetek case like the 9155.
